Hogmanay Haiku
Soft powder white snow
On the Edinburgh day train
Outside my window
Icy snow compacted
How one must tread carefully!
while walking the streets
We need cooking salt
Shops have none as its all been
sprinkled on the streets
Torchlight procession
Queue to get your burning stick!
What does this all mean?Cold wind, burning flame
Hot wax dripping everywhere
Quick! Follow the crowds
Bing! Bang! Boom! Sparks fly!Fireworks across the sky
Let's all celebrate!
Great balls of fire
flicker in the frosty night
What does this all mean?
How funny you look
A yellow cone on your head
Poor Mr Statue.
The sky is falling!
Fluffy snow flakes all around
Umbrellas all out!
Let's climb Arthur's Seat!People slipping and sliding
down the icy path.
People in good humour
Festival is in the air
Midnight approaching
The Cuban Brothers on stage
ring in the new year
The count down from ten
Farewell 2009
Let's sing Auld Lang Syne

Cork on Ice
Cork's indoor Christmas ice skating rink closed and relocated outside in the new year. My flight from London => Cork was diverted to Shannon (160km away). I then had to spend 3 1/2 hours on a bus (with extremely cold air conditioning) to get to Cork airport.
As you can see, my car was covered in about 15 centimetres of snow, and had to be dug out of it's parking lot.
(Below: Scenes from the neighbourhood & my backyard)
I have yet to sit outside on that bench in the sun.No surprise that I called in sick to work the next day.
Scrap the floatie campaign and bring on the ice skates (and more importantly, the ice skating lessons). Come on people, dig deep!
